For as long as I can remember, and possibly since we got the P38 18 months ago, it's shown the book symbol. This winter it became obvious that only cold air was coming out of the driver's side. So, I got a couple of quotes to replace the blend motors and start saving my pennies... :(

Anyway, this weekend I replaced the battery. The car had been displaying the odd "Traction Failure" message for a few weeks, and I had discovered that the battery didn't have enough CCA, thanks to the cheapskate dealer who sold me the car. So, in went a "proper" Bosch battery.

On Monday, I went round to the in-laws and smelt a sort of hot smell, and leant over to feel what was coming out of the windscreen vent (it was set permanently this way to stop me getting a very cold face :) and blow me down it was hot air. Looked down, and no book symbol.

Now, I had already done all the "exercises" to try to free the blend motors, to no avail. Could the new battery just have made the difference? Or is it a coincidence?

Of course, I'm not complaining - new battery is a whole lot cheaper than new blend motors :D

Low battery volts cause all sorts of problems on the P38, first time I have heard of the blend motors recovering with a new battery though. That's a real result!

Whilst the battery certainly won't have done any harm I wonder if the act of disconnecting the old and connecting the new has re-set the hevac.
Whatever, cracking result.
Out of interest how much were you being quoted for the blend motor replacement?

I would recommend if you are having the blend motors done do the heater o rings at the same time worth the extra cost
