Bonnet too long?

At the risk of being snapped at again..

Are you certain the bonnet is seated properly in the two brackets at the bulkhead? It needs to be raised completely, including taking the bonnet stay off, so it drops down into the bushes....

The bulkhead is solid, as are the hinge brackets. They both sit flush on the bulkhead, now bowing or or rot. The bonnet hinges are solid, also no movement or rot. This is why I am struggling to see whats going wrong here. Obviously I appreciate everyones advice, but taking the bonnet off and putting it back on again changes nothing.

Let's have some close up piccys taken - you're right Storm (and James) but too hard too help further without being abel to see it.

Only a limited number of variables with this one - can't see how bulkhead would suddenly not be square!

The confusing thing for me is it used to pop up and close freely, aligned perfectly. Come back from a laning trip and it now sits too far forward despite taking no impacts of anything more scary than foliage :s

i had a simila fault with mine in the end i found that the striker plate had combe loos and sliped backwards after repositioning it apx i hr it now works fine again

Your latch or the pin have moved...thats why your cable is stuck in open position, it will close again when bonnet shut properly. doubt its cos u were laning, could have happened at tescos.

Striker plate has to be favourite then - must be some fair movement in the hinge brackets as well for the gaps the OP mentions to be possible as well.

Guess as the bonnet just slots into the bulkhead mountings, a fair bit of movement is possible

Should be able to see if the striker mounting has moved from looking at the paint marks around it

that is if he is as annal as i am with the cleaning of his car after going laining

It could be the chassis has broken/bowed allowing the bulkhead to tilt forward .............................:D

Well, ended up slotting the bonnet hinge holes. Not only is it now opening and closing fine, its no longer on the ****! The slam panel hadn't moved, the cable hadn't slipped and neither was anything seized. So in summary, **** knows what happened there!
