Bonnet Number Plates

Hello,

I've seen alot of people have bonnet number plates I just wanted to know where do you get them from?

Also is it legal? do you also have to keep your lower one on?

I got a magnetic one off ebay for 15 notes.No its not legal, no it cant pass the mot with it on(well mine did but the proper one was on there too), no you dont need ya v5 to buy one cos it aint legal.My lower one is still on but often gets bent up outta sight.Would be surprised if ya got a tug for it, byut that dont mean it wont happen.Mine is to the same standard as legal ones.

They front number plate has to be readable from the front (obviously) so it has to be pretty much vertical.

I have had a sticky number plate on the front edge of the Discovery bonnet for 8 years now and no problems from MOT or Plod.

The front edge of the Disco and RRC bonnets are just curved enough to make the number plate just vertical enough (I guess). Wouldn't think the same was true of a Defender tho.

With the std bumper removed from mine an a tubular winch bumper fitted, there is no vertical surface at the front to mount a number plate. It has been fitted to the bonnet, an its not that readable from the front if I'm honest. Bin through the MoT no probs, sin loads of plod with no probs.

Even know a plod personally, and he has never mentioned it, even asked if he'd pull something similar over if he saw it out an about, he said he wouldn't bother. It may look rough, but most heavily modded cars are fully legal cause of the attention they draw.

Is that riveted?Mines magnetic, ie removable so instantly fails the mot, so im told.

Never had an issue with MOT or Police.

Earlier bonnet allows me to go nearer the front edge

Std rigid plastic plate, bolted to bonnet,

2 stick on plates from flea bay for a tenner

I got so fed up of either breaking number plates, or them being so muddy you couldn't read them, i moved mine to the roof, i only have the LR roof bars that go across the roof rails

Most of those look illegal to me, but I think it's the old case of don't upset the copper in the first place, and they have more important things to worry about.
All E-types came from the factory with illegal numberplates, but I don't think anyone was ever done for it.

Yep, like i sed i know mines ilegal, but figure im less likely to get a pull for having it rather than getting a pull for not having a plate visible.Im mean ive paid good money out to stop getting nicked, hopefully i dont get a fine on top:doh:

... and the eagle-eyed may have spotted that mine isn't even central!!

Think I must have been drunk when I stuck it on, then cba to change it ...

The rules are stricter for new-style regs. You would need to have regulation pattern letters and manufacturer's or seller's name on the plate. I suspect anyone supplying anything else would be breaking the law (although there's quite a few illegal ones even so down here in cowboy country, so that's not necessarily an obstacle.)

all your landrovers look reli good hopfully mine will one day look somthing like that well so far i have the same blue and a snorkel lol.

In the last couple of months they have tightened the MoT regarding illegal number plates, so even if it has passed up to now, it may not next time. I think it may only apply to newer vehicles though.
