Bonnet not opening on my disco 2. 1999

I know there's quite a lot of threads about this already, but I'm really new to it all and trying to find a solution.
I brought my disco a few days ago, stupidly, I didn't have a clue what to look out for and no sooner I got it home I found loads of issues with it, one of them, the bonnet won't open.
It opened twice when I brought it home, but I needed a second person to pull the lever while I pressed on the bonnet, but now after several attempts, I can't open the bonnet. I've tried sticking wire in to locate the pull thing,
And think I found it, but nothing happens.......any ideas folks, anything is appreciated for this newbie!

Hi Matthew,

Do you have the Rave workshop download?

If not then go to this website and download Rave01.iso

http://www.green-oval.com/data/lr/

Also, do make sure you have the EKA code.

Regarding the bonnet, If I was you , you have said it si going back under warranty to the garage on Monday, let them sort it out.

Did it have a full service from the dealer when you bought it?

Cheers

Thanks nielly, I tried looking for the thread yesterday, but couldn't find it, thanks helping:)
What would the EKA code look like?

Matt

Hi Matt,

EKA code is a 4 digit code, it should be on your security card. It can be confusing because it can appear as the following.

4 numbers from 1 to 15.

As a mixture of numbers and letters from 1 to 9 and A to F as it is a hexadecimal code. If it appears to have letters, then you need to convert to decimal version. A=10 B=11 etc.

If not then the attachment I sent you the link to in the discovery section will also help you find it. But the garage should be able to get it for you

Not sure what you meant about not being able to find the thread??

Cheers

Hi nielly, I've enclosed a picture of the codes I have with the car, not sure if there for the radio or something else.
The thread, I meant the section I was supposed to post in:)

Hi Matt,

Those Clarion pages look like radio codes,

But make sure to hold onto the bar codes tags, they could be for the keyfobs, so if needed you can use a hawkeye to reprogram if required.

Have a look at the alarm attachment in the discovery section ( first post) this gives details of how to get the EKA.

The security card is a credit card sized thing

Cheers

Just to give you an idea of what the LR security card should look like, I've added a picture on one that I've made from a picture of one that I saw once. The details are obviously fictitious.

Those Clarion pages look very much like guarantee sheets to me, most but not all radios have a four digit security code.

ive also found some barcode tabs what were attached to the remote handsets apparently. could they be the codes?.
looking through the owners manual, i found a section about locking the doors and someone hade wrote in pen 4 numbers and the ways you to turn them to turn off the immobiliser i think, not sure?
matt

OK the code you found hand written in the book sounds like the EKA, code. Go and give it a try.

The bar code tabs are for the handsets, are they NOT the same ones in the picture above we have already discussed?

Cheers

OK, follow the manual exactly to the letter including the 5 minute delay.

See if the car gives you the beep after you have entered the code.

NOW delete that photo....................LOL

Cheers

I'm a bit confused though reading this thread's title and first post .... will inserting the EKA help to open the bonnet? ... i was really curious about a trick to open the bonnet that's why i'm asking

Not tried it yet, but will post as soon as I do, I'll probably bugger something up if I do it now and not be able to drive it to the dealers tomorrow.

Another problem...lol...when I turn the key, there's a humming sound coming from the back of the car....it's just one thing after the other, If it gets nicked, they might repair it...lol:)

Neilly has this thing about making sure that people have the EKA for future use. Unfortunately, the rest of us got caught up in it too. But there again it might just be a ploy on his part to divert the OP from the fact that he's basically screwed, and even if anybody knows how to open the bonnet with a broken release cable, they're not going to be publishing it on an open forum.
The OP is probably going to have to rock up at the main stealers with the V5 as proof of ownership, just having the vehicle with him isn't exactly proof that you're the owner and then let the LR apprentices loose on it.
