can anyone help me?
i have bought a 1987 landrover 90 and am looking to get her resprayed. the problem i have is the white ally corrosion patches as i have been told that if rub down and respray the corrosion will reappear its ugly head? does anyone know of anything i can put on the patches to stop them spreading and reappearing??

stop the corrosion! is it the doors your talking about? if so fix them first and dont bother painting until the rust is cured!

no not the doors, rear panels,side panels etc... they got white patches and the paintwork bubbling up

unfortunately u wont stop it,its a reaction,,

ive just resprayed my 90 recently and prepped everything ,etch primer ,2 pack primer,and 2 pack paint..3 months later i have some slight bubbleing on the rear door i didnt have b4,and the rest seems fine,but its only a matter of time..


i removed the bubbleing and filled using aluminium filler

It's a reaction between steel an aluminium. Doubt you can stop it without taking everything to bits and painting everywhere that the two metals touch.

I forgot what it's called but there's this spray you can get that converts rust into this black stuff you can paint over

this is not rust this is a corrosive reaction between two dissimilar metals
land rover found this out in 1950 but still to this day sandwich aluminium onto steel. You can get a paste that prevents this reaction, but you have to seperate the parts to apply it. hey ho it'a a land rover

Yeah its called 'Dont buy a land Rrver if corrosion bothers you' had trouble with both my 200 and then 300 Discoveries and ended up replacing all doors on the 200 to cure the problem and covered over the spots on the 300 and then sold it, feel bad on reflection that some other sod would think he was getting a good looking motor but he ho, what goes around comes around my TD5 has now a few minor spots.

curirust is the stuff to us just use a wire brush to get rid of loose rust put bit of liquid in lid nd paint on with small brush nd turns black then prim and paint
