BMW sat nav upgrade

Hi all, I'm getting fed up of my crappy satnav screen keep 'yellowing' I've heard of the BMW upgrade. Can anyone tell me what I need. Is it the main unit or the disc drive in the boot or both? Also what one i need? Cheers dan

Depends what you have already. If the screen keeps changing colour then it may be as simple as a loose connector in the screen itself. This is quite common on the x5 which share many components from 2000 onwards. If you have the mk 3 sat nav computer you can upgrade to the mk 4 DVD system easily by just swapping out the drive units.you can identify which unit you have by looking at the drive. The mk3 will had navigation system on the front and the later mk4 has DVD on the front.

I've just bought a mk4 BMW unit, are the head units the same? I heard the BMW has an iPod input?

Hi, I need to replace my sat nav as its faulty, I know you can plug and play with the updated MK4 BMW DVD in the boot but can I also switch the head unit in the car to the BMW X5 one, as a friend has one and it would be much cheaper for me? Is it the same size/shape etc or would it not sit in the console correctly? Also do I need to remove half the dash to get it in?

It is possible....search for a thread by Hippo2.0 on the subject he has done a great install with his Head Unit upgrade...

I'll see if I can find it for you...
