I have a BMW323 with a 2.5l 6 cylinder engine with a muti point LPG conversion, which is sat doing nothing and will be going up for sale. It doesn't owe me anything and isn't worth as much as the LPG conversion alone so I thought it might go well in the Defender. I've looked about and these engines were fitted in South Africa Defenders when BMW owned Land Rover but I haven't found much else.

Has anyone ever driven one or does anyone have any info on the bell housing etc? The search showed up one post from 2008 which didn't have much info, thought I'd try again!

The engine is great and I think it would go well, I would possibly think about boring it out as I'd give it a rebuild so it would be putting out around 200BHP, the Defender is mainly used on road with a bit of greenlaning but no serious off roading

I would also be interested in this.
Would go for the earlyer m50 b25 engine though as they are much stronger with greater torque figures aswell. 190ish bhp.

I have read they are better as you can stroke them to 2.9l and get some good power, I think both engines might link up to the bellhousing of the 2.5l diesel too

If you could shoehorn in a BMW S 54 unit, that would make for one mightly impressive Defender! Might be a bit rubbish off road but, by god, it would move :flame:
