Hi all, my wife has a p38 rangey 2.5 dse, the motor has been chipped and we have turbo back stainless free flow exhaust and a new intercooler, it pulls really well. I am currently looking at buying a 90 to play with and was wondering if anyone had fitted a 2.5d bmw motor (138bhp std!) into one? People seemed to give this engine bad press in the rangerover's but our's is spot on (touch wood!). So come on fella's what's your thoughts????

Is that the 6cyl one they put in the omega?
I have asked same question before else where, And looking at the engine it looks like its a bit to long to go in there, recon it would be well tight on the rad.
But as you say it would be a beast, my omega goes like stink!:D
I was planning to put it in my 90 when it fails its mot (on rot) If you do have any joy i love to hear about it. but as matey says, it'll be easier to fit a 200tdi.

try it. can't be that hard. the fact you are considering it shows you are technically minded so i'm sure you can make it fit. i would swap my 200tdi for a bmw motor any day! sorry boys and girls. 200tdi's are slow!! yes. i said it. they are slow. just the best of the bunch!

What happened to this project...?
In South Africa (I do not know about other markets), under BMW ownership, the BMW 2.8 petrol engine was used as one of the petrol power sources and has now become, I am told, quite sought after in the second hand market.

I would pick a BMW straight 6 over any LR engine, BMW know how to makes cars and thier engines are amongst the most reliable engines going... I have to ask though how far have you looked into this? Is there an adapter plate to fit the LT77/R380 boxes or would you use the RR gear? Quite like the idea of a BMW 330D engine in a 90, that would go like absolute stink!!

The 2.5 diesel he is talking about that they also fitted to the Omega is legendary. Never fail and the torque is ridiculous. Just have a look at the value it adds to a scrapper if that engine is fitted in the front. I would love one in my land rover.

workmate has a 330d auto and the torque is a lot of fun , but i still think id rather have 200 or 300 for off roading ?

The 330's not though ;)

The 2.5 is the early attempt at a decent diesel as found in the E36, the 330D is the later engine and alot better, sure it had the standard EGR problems as you would expect of any car now days but its one hell of a diesel engine... ohh, 300ft/lb of torque... mmmmmmm....

Hello. Does anyone know if i can put a 380 transfer box of a 300 TDi Disco on the end of my 2.5 BMW engine so as i can use it in a Series Land Rover please.
