Hello all,
Can anybody help with this issue.
Lanny drives pritty much smoke free and pulls like a tank,
But if held at 2000 rpm smoke so bad.
Oil level never changes from max.
New crankbreather BMW mod fitted,
New intercooler pipes fitted
EGR bypass,

If anybody can think of anything I would love the help.
Thanks in advance

This is one of the side effects of removing the EGR. If you search this forum for 2000rpm misfire, you'll find your not alone.
Double check you've tightened the turbo hoses up and check your vacuum hoses. Also make sure your EGR bypass unit is nice and snug.

Mine used to do the misfire at 2000rpm, but after much digging around in the engine bay in search of another problem, it doesn't do it anymore!
No idea what stopped it, unfortunately.

Thanks for you reply mike, I will have a little look around tomorrow, something else I've noticed is if I unplug my MAF the car don't change one little bit, is this normal ?
I would expect something, like poor idle or something.

Thanks in advance

I thought that a weak MAF was improved by unplugging. If the engine runs the same with the MAF in and out then surely the MAF is doing nada and is kaput. The default program is less effective than a real working MAF.

This is what I was thinking but my knowledge doesn't extend this deep.
If anybody else could shed any light on the matter I would appreciate,
Thanks for your reply David and thanks all

In my experience, once the MAF has gone low signal either due to age or dirt on it, the engine runs lumpy on tick over and is sluggish to accelerate.
If you unplug the MAF the default program kicks in and normal service is resumed, except for increased fuel consumption.
Don't forget the MAF does not kick in immediately upon startup and runs the default map until certain criteria are met.
And the MAF is mainly there for fueling, it measures air temp and density, that's why when it goes pop the engine runs like a bag of spanners.

So, the default map should behave like a working map other than more fuel consumption.

If I'm wrong on this @Nodge68 will put me right.

Check MAP sensor attached to the manifold front of engine drivers die, it could well do with a manifold clean as well, if you have your old EGR clean it out with some carb cleaner, of even Swafega scarp most of the gunk out using and old hacksaw blade, then brush the swafega into the EGR with an old toothbrush leave over night if possible wipe clean with a rag next day, re-instate the EGR and see how it is then.

Mine smokes like mad if the revs are held at 2K for a few minutes. I believe it's to do with the PCV valve sticking or something similar. It only does it off boost, when crankcase pressure is high. On boost, with low crankcase pressure, there's no smoke.

Hi all, would just a few mm over the max mark on the dipstick cause this sort of problems,

Are they likely to pic up this on the emissions test with tomorrow Mot

Thanks in advance

A couple of mm over the level shouldn't cause problems. The smoke is oil drawn in under certain conditions.
It won't show up in the MOT.

Just massive confusion over a Maf sensor
I have just unplugged my maf and the car still drives the same with a spluttering misfire between 2000 and 3000 rpm and smoking quite bad, is my MaF NFG or is this a normal MAF

Thanks all
