Hi folks,

My heater has started blowing fuses every time its turned on. After reading some of the other threads on the it sounds like it might be seized (since I can't find any other obvious wiring issues). The Haynes Vague makes the replacement of it look pretty complicated, is that the case, can anyone give me any tips (useful, hopefully!)? Or, should I just get torn in and have a bash.

Any advice gratefully received!

cheers

Hi mate i had the same problem with mine!

Well mine wasnt blowing fuses and certainly wasnt blowing air!

It was a bit easier for me to get to as i already had the engine out doing an engine swap so i had a little more room!

I found it easier to remove the washer bottle first! Remove the washer pump wire connector, then remove the pump (Twist pump then lift up)

Once all the water had drained out remove the two 10mm nuts holding the washer tub in place then remove tub.

I would recommend leaving the two heater coolant hoses attatched otherwise you will lose some of your engine coolant.

Remove the cables attatched to you heater box and the two electrical connectors (Youl find the connectors in the top right corner of the engine bay tucked down the heater box.

You will notice the two nuts on the bottom of the heater box and on mine i had two more bolts going through the bulkhead to where the passenger footwell is. Undo these 4 nuts.

Then its just a case of man ooovering the heater box out enough so you can see the fan. Then you should see about 5-6 small nuts holding the motor in place. Take these off and the motor should come out!

With mine i sprayed WD40 into the motor itself....spun it by hand then connected it directly to the battery (Make sure you have the motor secure when you do this!)

Its free'd the motor for me but i know its only a temp fix.... You could really do with gettin a replacment and slot that in!

Hope this helps :)

Scott / Dan,

yup, looks similar to mines. It's like driving a noisy fridge at the moment. Thanks for the info, going to give it a shot on Boxing Day I think, I'll post back and let you know how much blood was lost / what else I broke in the process!
Cheers

Glad to hear you're using this: I plan to keep it much more aggressively up-to-date than has been the case in the past, but don't hesitate to let me know if you find errors or need clarifications.

Yup! A loyal friend, indeed.

I starting to like this forum. Now if Tiger Woods can say out of trouble maybe I will get some work done.

Thanks Busterbus, that's really helpful. Downside is, I've got no excuse not to do it now! Merry Chrimbo!
cheers
