Righto, not long ago i replaced my retro 80's pioneer deck for a sony headunit and everytime i turn the headlights on, or put them on full beam, the unit turns off then back on.

Now i take it when the lights are turned on, they require more current to heat the fillimants so create a surge, reducing the current the stereo can draw. But heres the anoying bit, ive just bought a new 110Ah numax battery so whats going on here?? The stereo is wired through the standard white black and brown wires in the dash which should be more than capable of supplying ample current to the head unit, since the iso leads out the back of it are of a thinner gauge wire.

The stereo can output a max of 220W (55 per channel) but i never have it turned up more than half way so its ony gonna draw around 9-10A ish so im not sure why its dieing when the lights are turned on.

Any ideas people??

Thanks in advance

Ollie

Earth. check the earth of the stereo and the lights.

This is a classic automotive electrical fault, if ever something goes "off" when something else is turned on, then it's an earth fault.

just try strapping another new earth onto the stereo (and onto a decent earth point) and on the headlights.
