I had a left hand side blend motor fault. I have decided to do it myself, took about an hour to get it out not as big a job as i thought.
Dealer wanted 10 hours labour
Not sure whether I should change all three or splice the new left one in. Does anyone have any idea where the cheapest supplier is.

Paul

I only ever replace what thas failed,It saves lots of labour time and possible cracked/rattling trim.Get the blend pack from a Britpart agent for probably the cheapest deal.
The reason for the high price from a LR dealer is that the approved method of repair is to remove the dash - lots of work !
The LH blender is the easiest to do on a RHD car,the RH one is not so simple !

Blend motors complete
I decided to go for all three, for the time it takes to strip dash I wasn`t just going to replace one, cost 172 including postage.
It took around 7 hours of my own time.
Only problem I have is trying to set the glove box back up. Nightmare.
The climate control system must be the weakest system ever, in the past year I have had a new control unit, heater matrix, ambient sensor and now blendmotors.

Next is too replace the two rear air bags, just to be on the safe side

P38 ownership is fun :)

How exactly did you get your back in?? The little hex nuts dropped out when I removed mine and it was the biggest nightmare I have ever had trying to get the thing back toghether. Took me 2 hours in the end and I had to get a little creative with blu-tack to hold the nuts in place while i very gently aligned the glove and then screwed in the bolts gently. At least my glovebox is now aligned and opens and closes with the door shut :)

Hi well done on fitting your blend motors in under the alowd landrover time.
Mine went down 2 years ago and i was quoted nearly a grand by guy salmon landrovers in sheffrield for parts and 8 hours labour.

So i went into the parts dept and bought the parts myself, then i asked the parts manager if any of the mechanicks worked on the side.
He put me intouch with one of the mechanicks who fitted them for me on his day off and it took him exactly 90 mins.and he charged me 100 pounds to do the job.
all in all i think it cost £250 quid for parts and labour.

After talking to the mechanic he informed me that you dont need to remove the dash. Because with a bit of stretching you can access them via the footwell.:)

bluetack is an essential piece of kit for car mechanicing.

esp when u cant find your magnetic screwdriver.

I like to know how he done 'em in 90 mins, takes me 5 hours and i work at a dealer

Either side is hevac panel out,Lh is airbag and and glovebox out.Distribution and or Rh is intrument pack out, undo the screws with a 1/4 hex snap on rachet, with a couple of assorted bit lengths.Use some sticky stuff - that old body noise sealant Gun Gum works for me,to hold the screws more securely onto the bit and you are away.Just about an hour a side is my allowed time.Heater matrix "o" rings a tad longer - but only if the clamp screw will come undone.

Hey Paul - good work on the repair. I see that you say that you replaced your ambient temperature sensor - what problem were you seeing, and did this fix it? I'm getting erratic external temperature readings that I think are affecting the operation of the heating system. I was about to replace my sensor but it seems that a lot of problems are in teh ECU, not the sensor. Interested in your experience.
Thanks
Davy

Problem I had last summer with ambient it kept reading 0 when starting up after a while it would recover to normal. Due to the fact it read 0 climate system fills car with hot air. I bought an ambient pevious owner tied to fit a new ambient sensor taped to crosmember, and original one was still in holder. So I eneded up with 3 sensors all working perfectly, just put them accoss a meter. So I sold them on ebay.

The problem was solved with a new heater control unit (the dash bit)

The past year the air con has had
New control unit
Ambient sensor
new filler pipe work
2 re charges
3 blend motors

aparantly if you have lond arms you dont need to remove the dash.

90 mins
droped car of at 9am and collected at 10:30 am.
old blend motors removed and new ones fitted.

easy peesy lemon squeezy:)

Hi
to sound really naive & to ask a stupid question, would a blend motor fault create the problem that i have - passenger(L/H) side vents blow hot air no matter what the setting is on the control?

thanks

i guess this concerns me too then as my fiance dropped the car off to me yesterday and the drivers side was blowing hot air despite being on low. its funny how it was fine when i drove home from work the night before now its a right pain in ar*e. anyone have any ideas just so i know for sure, i dont want to change the blend motors when it could be something else.

You guys would appear to have it down to a "T"

I did a quick search on blend motors & these symptons definetly point to failed blend motor
this site http://www.rangerovers.net/repairdetails/blendmotor.html has instructions on fitting new ones & a quick fault finding test - cant vouch for how accurate it is but it also suggests that Peugeot's 406 blend motor is a cheaper substitute but although wire colours matech the R/R it needs wiring in - The Peugot part number is P644758 - any one else heard this??

am going to try to find the price differences & see if its worth doing

am gonna try to get them & fit them end of next week & will let you know how it goes

ps thanks for the blue tac advise earlier

Pockers

PS now to solve the gear box problem, reactivate the stereo, then who knows.......

now im not sure if my blend motor is knackered cos before it was staying hot even when down low then the other day it was working fine and now today its hot on low, hi and in-between.
