Bleeping immobiliser

just recently, when I use the fob to unlock my 1.8 fl1 the immobiliser flashes rapidly and continually bleeps until I start the engine. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening. I only have the one key and fob.

Isn't beeping because the battery is getting low in the fob?

That might be the reason. I've heard some owners say the range of their fob is quite good, but I have to be stood right next to mine for it to work. I'll put a new battery in and see if it improves. Thanks for the advice.
