as the title says, when coming home from our hols earlier, every time the revs went above 2100 rpm there was a big loss in power and a thick plume off black smoke from the exhaust, if i let the revs off and put the power back on the smoke would stop for a while but would soon be back,
the turbo bearings seem fine, no splits in any pipe work i can see, new filters fitted before we set off, egr removed, intercooler cleaned only a few weeks ago, new full exhaust fitted only last year, this would lead me to think it's an injector problem, am i going in the right direction with this or is there some thing else to check?

after we got home i checked every thing over and all seems fine, will even rev past 4000rpm and not even a bit of smoke, it only smokes under load at high revs

thanks

Nick

all pipes seem fine but gonna take them all off in the morning and have a good look at them.
bloody land rovers

if you work out wot it is let us know my 300tdi is doing the same thing fine in first gear 2nd & 3rd are the worst if i tickle the pedal its fine put me foot down & it just cuts the power off but never stalls let me foot off the pedal press slowley & it goes but it dont seem to do it at in low box

I had exactly the same problem with my 300. Simple solution: change the air filter. The filter may not look like it needs changing, but it creases along the ribs of the filter and folds in on itself when the turbo starts working hard. If you are unsure about what I am saying, take the air filter out and run for an hour without it and you will see a difference.

I had exactly the same problem, took the intercooler pipes off at the weekend and found a big split, replaced and job done, one quick clear out of black smoke and then clean running and a massive increase in power and hopefully fuel economy.

thanks for the replies folks, still not had time to check it out properly yet but will get round to it soon

right then folks i finally got around to looking for the problem today and all i could find is oil leaking from the air intake manifold on the side of the rocker cover, so i cleaned up the oil and nipped up the bolts and power seems to be restored:D
but could air being sucked in here cause black smoke and a loss of power or is it just wishful thinking:rolleyes:

the second photo where the number 5 is stamped on the head is where the oil is leaking from.

cheers

Nick

mine seems fine in normal driving but only has a problem with the caravan on the back, so only a problem under full load, when you cover the turbo intake does it pulol your hand into the turbo? if not the turbo's fooked
