Merry xmas everyone.

This question is for a friend of mine as i no longer have my Free Lander 1, running the Free Lander 2 now.The car in question is 2005 td4 manual approx 140000 miles. It has just had an injector replaced by Land rover and the fuel pump replaced. When he starts the car from cold it kicks out a lot of black smoke also it sounds a bit rough. It is not to bad after the initial start up but also kicks out quite a bit under load. The one i had never did this.It is running with the EGR valve in place,it has not been blanked. The car has also just had a full service done.Could this be a split pipe somewhere or something more serious! have not had a chance to have a look at the pipes for him.Any ideas guys.

Could be an air leak or may need the glow plugs changed if not already done as if not tip top you get more smoke than usual

The car in question is 2005 td4

could be an 'ovefuelling maf sensor'

about the 'maf' sensor :
http://tuning-diesels.com/75Zt/R75maf.htm

a duff air-intake-temperature-sensor ..
( the ecu will default it to -5c temp. resulting in over fuelling if air temp is above -5c )
https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/and-the-black-smoke.224520/

a split / leaking intercooler hose .. fairly common ..
especially where the top hose rubs against a screw-head that secures the air-intake ducting ..
usually black smoke if rev'd in neutral gear ..
definitely black smoke under load .. and also feeling underpowered ..
suggestion: replace rubber hose with silicone type

sticking egr valve maybe ?
would give symptoms such as rough running at low rpm ..
choking feel to the engine running ..
more smoke from exhaust ..
best off getting rid of it anyway .. better mpg .. a tad more responsive engine ..
'n nothing to gunk up .. stick .. 'n cause running issues ..
