Hi further to my post "series jammed in gear" I followed the advice and drained my gearbox oil,

I think that they are detent springs from the selector mechanism?.Anybody know where the square nut came from? Is it an easy job to replace them? Will the box need to come out? Will anymore damage have been done? Thanks for your help Myles.

thats not a square nut its from 1st and 2nd syncro hub there are three slipper pads springs and detent balls
 
Oh dear, yes I've found where the come from now, gearbox out.... Don't suppose it can be done in situe
no and look at the inner part of synchro hub parts of it around those locations often break off, and keep the 2 halves together and check they have marks or mark them yourself to ensure they can be but back together again in the exact same relationship,the slipper pads have a slight curve on the top edge this means they should be fitted ensuring they do
