I've just been making a list of parts I need for all of the jobs on my 110 CSW and wondered if anyone could answer a few questions?

I'm replacing my coil springs and shocks and have been looking at getting a set of Monroe Adventurer Gas shocks. Are these any good? I'm not an off roader and I am on a budget but don't want to settle for Britpart after what I've read and been told about them!

The coil springs I'm looking at are just the standard Paddocks OEM ones.

I'm also confused about bushings! Whilst I'm changing the shocks and coils I thought I may as well do the bushings while I'm there as the ones I can see look cracked and I don't think they have ever been done.

I'm looking for polyurethane bushes as I've been told they last ages but not sure what set I need for my Landy. It's a 1992 J reg 110 CSW. I've sort of got my head round part numbers for some things but really confused about what to go for regarding the bush kit.

Last thing I'm looking at changing is the wheel bearings. I've managed to find the part number for mine and seen some Bearmach ones on the net for about £4.50 each which seem to be a good make. Thing is, I'll need 2 bearing for each wheel which will add up 8 bearings and a lot more expense! Does anyone know if they can be bought as a kit to save a bit etc.?

Like I said, I'm on a budget but I'm trying to get mid-range parts in terms of quality or at least a bit better than budget stuff!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, J.

if you buy from paddocks its likely to be from britpart as they tend to be the cheapest wholesaler but oe ,genuine is the same from there as any where else ,poly bushes dont tend to last as long as genuine std bushes imo ,buyt are easy to fit and change when are worn ,not a big fan of monroe ,but have used a lot od britpart super gas shockers and have found them good even on hard worked trucks, wheel bearings should be timken rtc3429g is and about £6 each dont buy pattern britpart or anyones but oe,genuine or decent branded stuff ,

Put genuine Metalastik bushes in and you'll get another 10-20 years out of them.

Shocks, I have Monroes on my 90 and whilst they seem very good be aware that they will not sell you the bushes seperately! So you have to buy a whole new set of shocks when the bushes go. For this reason I will be replacing mine with standard Land Rover shocks.

I wouldn't buy Paddocks OE springs, they'll be Britpart. If your springs are knackered then get new genuine Land Rover ones. Again, you'll get 20 years out of them so it's more than worth it. Buy cheap, buy twice and all that.

Re. Wheel bearings, Paddocks do Timken ones I believe. As long as they come in a Timken box you'll be OK. No need to buy genuine for this, so long as you get Timken ones it's just the same part in a different box when you buy genuine L/R.

oe from anywhere will be as good ,britpart dont buy different oe or genuine branded than others, its only pattern that varies

They do sometimes. For example an 'OEM' propshaft UJ from Britpart will be a GKN UJ. But it will not be the same GKN UJ as you would get in a Land Rover box. Same size and fitment yes, but not built to the same standard. People think that because it's GKN it's the same thing, but of course GKN make thousands of different UJs for many different fitments, and Britpart will buy the cheapest one they sell that will fit, so they can sell it as OEM. The only way to be sure what you are getting is to check the manufacturer's part number, ie. the GKN part number on the proper Land Rover UJ, and then make sure that your 'OEM' one is the same thing!

Same goes for bearings etc., though I have found so far that all the Britpart OEM bearings I have had have been the correct Timken/SKF etc. units with the correct part numbers on, same as the Genuine ones.

Don't know what the situation would be with regard to springs, but I would hazard a guess that the Britpart OEM springs aren't the same as the genuine Land Rover springs. I'd like to be proved wrong though, as it would mean I could replace all mine for a lot less than Land Rover want :)
