hi, i've just filled up with Biodiesel for the first time but read in here it seems the rubber fuel lines will need replacing because they rot, is this true or shall i just leave it till some thing happens.
any advice appreciated

Your fuel lines will only rot if you process the vegetable oil to turn it into bio diesel. Biodiesel is technically vegetable oil, processed with methanol (the nasty corroding stuff) and some other dry chemicals in order to remove the glycerine which will in effect over time clog up your engine.

Generally speaking if you have an engine such as the 200/300tdi (not TD5 or new ford engine) with a bosch injection pump you can run your vehicle on straight veg oil without having to thin it down with diesel or process it to take out the glycerine.

Older engines like the 2.5 N/A, and 2.5TD have lucas / cav fuel pumps which wont like veg oil on its own. This is purely down to the fact that it doesn't lubricate the pump as well as standard DERV because of the extra viscosity. Thinning it down with diesel (or another chemical of your choice - illegal!) will be fine and you will be able to start on it.

The annoying thing is that the stuff has gone right up in price from when I started. I only used to pay 53p a litre, now its within the region of 99p to £1.10 depending on whether you want to run a bit of crisp'n'dry through your engine (no difference what so ever), so its not as worthwhile (cost wise anyway) as it used to be.

I have just found a way (perhaps) to get hold of it for less than 50p per litre where I work for pocket money. I'm going to ask Head Chef next time I see him, so I may be stinking the street out again!

Ive got a 300 in my 90 and I just whack in the veg oil and it goes without any trouble. Gives a bit of a cloud in the morning on 1st start but goes really well. Somerfeild had 1 ltr bottles on offer for 88p last week so got a few(cough). Typical goverment tax hunger with the price of veg oil. Didnt take em long to catch on. Ive met people who run tdi's on heating oil but even that is getting expensive.

Yer can't put fooking Soyafooking oil in yer injin. If yer does you'll be looking for noo fuel pump & possibly even a noo injin in a couple of months. :eek: :eek:
 
Why? Ran my 19J on the stuff for about 6000 miles didn't notice it falling to bits on me:confused: Only stopped using it when the bastards put the price up. Lidl's is me favourite now:D
 
I'd also heard somewhere that soya was a no-no but carn't remember why - thought it had summat to do with it having strands in it or something - but also remember mentioning it here before and being told it was OK (probly by you Hughesy!)

What brand of oil is it from Bookers, I have access to a card but when I looked on their website I couldn't see anything under £1.15(ish)

OD you still got stock, if we can get 78p at bookers you fancy some, how bout you Trewy?

Evenin matey! Count me in! I'm now down to my last 10 litres of the old 56p stuff i stocked up on :eek:
 
Is there no way of running a td5 on veg oil and what is the law on the subject in Ireland. The price of diesel is has gone through the roof
