I've made my mind up. I'm going to start making my own bio diesel. I've researched it as much as any sane person can, (without going insane), and I would be mad not to. But it's a minefield, or so it would seem.

Every arrow points me in the direction of the vegetableoildiesel forum. This is a vast forum full of good advice, but, to the unitiated, seems to be very biased to sag the least. Is every bio diesel processor on the market really a piece of crap? Are you really risking your life, as we'll as your family's and everyone who lives in your county's lives by using anything other than a GL processor built by one of the forum hierarchy? And what is a GL processor, exactly, anyway ?

Genuine questions, because I'm getting confused here. Thanks for responses in advance.

Well, after yet more reading, I have found out that a GL processor is one designed by a bloke whose initials are GL! It is more complicated that your bog standard processor because it does something fancy with the methanol fumes. Most of what I read on the vegetableoildiesel forum was too complicated for me. Not being an expert, it's all gobbledygook to me. From listening to people who make their own, I know it isn't that complicated. I reckon it would be pretty easy to build a basic processor.

Yes most of the ebay type machine's are ****.
End of!!!
The GL plant you mention is much safer than just about anything on the market....there are exceptions but not many.
Graham's biodiesel docs.
that is grahm's site...basic but full of information.
The main thing with a GL plant is the methonal is kept inside the plant and not inside you.
You can also recover some of the meth you use thus saving money!!!
Don't be afraid of us at the vegetableoil site.....we are quite friendly really....no worse than on here!!!
Is you can solder with a plumber's torch you can build your own 120lt batch size plant for about £300.
If you can get oil for nowt you should be able to make bio for about 12-15 p per litre.
Enjoy!:D

Thanks for that. The forum is a mine of information, but way above my head at the moment. I'm sure it will be useful once I start making my bio. I'd like to build my own processor, but at the moment I'm looking at second hand Golden Ray and Fenland processors. These are what my friends use and they recommend them as easy to use, good quality processors. The dry wash system that the GL processor uses looks good, but also more time consuming and expensive. Is that right?

Most off the shelf reactors vent methanol to atmosphere when demething the mix.....fumes that you can breath in.
Blind
Mad
Dead
That's what meth does to you through breathing it in or splashing on your skin.
If you must use a golden ray or any other readymade kit you must be extra carefull of fumes.
Anything with a plastic tank should NOT have an immersion element in the tank......an overheating element will melt the tank very easily.
do a search on the bio site for a jamesrl plant...now there's a piece of kit!!!
