The reason I have started a new thread was because this is a different question with regards to fuel.

Whats the consensus of P38 Diesel owners running on Bio Diesel.

It looks as though a lot of money could be saved by useing waste veg oil and turning it into bio diesel.

Is the P38 OK to run on Bio Diesel or should I forget alternative fuel options, quit complaining and shut up, lol.

I was also after feedback from members who are or have used biodiesel, and was hoping for some feedback as to what the thought about useing it in a P38.

well i also drive a p38 2.5 dse and im in the middle of setting up my bio diesel unit as i have access to unlimited waste veg oil, have a look on Graham's biodiesel docs. he shows you how to set up your own unit. as far as the research i have done it seem that any diesel engine can run on bio diesel made from waste veg oil

Yes they can. BUT i would be VERY careful about the quality of the bio diesel used in a common rail engine. Injector pump engines are a little more tolerant than the common rail type. P38 should be ok with good quality bio.
 
I spoke to a couple of Range Rover dealers & the Rover Centre in Huddersfield, and they all warned against bio diesel because mine is common rail.

They all quoted a £1000 to repair/replace the pump :eek:.

I think I will leave it alone, and be happy that I have a nice car that it is just a little juicy.

So, what mpg are you getting from your diesel at the mo, and bio is only a few pence per litre cheaper ??

If your P38 is common rail then it is unique:rolleyes: The BMW lump uses electronically controlled mechanical injection. Your garage is talking rubbish, if thats all they know about the P38 I would steer well clear of them:eek:

It does not have to be the pump that is causing high fuel consumption. The injectors are the first thing i would take a look at. Quite dear to get reconditioned from dealers, but dedicated diesel repair shops are about who do them a lot cheaper. Try Diesel Bob.
 
slightly unrelated to the main topic but i was looking at the GL method of making bio diesel. is there anyone on this site that is using his method of brewing bio? im going to start making my kit in about 1 month and need some info and a parts list would be a HUGE HELP

Not that expensive

reckon arron the beast has them in his motor
