Tried it over winter with fully refined biodiesel with an anti-coagulant and all the stuff and the fuel filter went solid with a waxy mess and needed replacing. Tried again over the last few weeks and all well until yesterday when we were into fuel starvation and stalling. Opened the little tap at the bottom of the fuel filter and let out the contents of the chip shop fryer. Seemed OK and flew thru the MOT today but then conked out coming back fm the test! What timing, eh? New filter tomorrow and then revert to fossil fuels. So much for saving the planet and preserving my bank account.:blabla::doh::eek:. Bolshy great yarblockoes!

Biodiesel is generally crap. Best thing to do is buy new cooking oil from you local friendly supermarket and mix it 50/50 with diesel for summer use, and 40/60 (60 diesel) for winter. Many chippies use solid fat and this gets mixed in with cooking oil, biodiesel makers don't let it settle and drain it off everything goes in the bio cooker. That results in the fatty waxy type deposites.

Don't blame the fuel blame the maker!!!!
Well made and properly tested biodiesel is as good as fossil fuel.
The stuff i make bio with looks like vomit when its cold but makes decent fuel and with a coldflow additive is usually ok in winter. If its gets really cold or the car is not being used for a while i mix it with unleaded petrol or a 10% dino mix.
Unfortunately its not that difficult to make bio on a large scale and satisfy the local authorties with a bit of paperwork and then see £££££ signs coming your way so there are a few bad producers.
