what are the biggest size tyres i can fit on a discovery 2 before i have to cut the wings, i require them from my mud slut.

I've got 245/75 on mine, and I had to adjust the steering stops slightly.

You can go as far as 235/85 R16 without any cutting of the arches on standard suspension, you will need to adjust the lock stops to stop the tyres fouling the radius arms.
These are still quite narrow and will tuck up inside the arches under articulation, the wider you go, say 265 etc will start to foul the arches, especially the rear quarters, see " Discovery camel cut" to see what I mean, unless you change your rims to bring them closer to the center of the hub, but then you'll take the turning radius of an articulated lorry.

Hi. Apologies for the random reply to your post, however having spent hours on here researching previous threads and external tyre size websites, yours is the most concise Ive see yet
Im on standard alloys with 235/75/16 but as Ive had two rim seal punctures I need to do something about the rims. Im going to source some steel modular wheels but at the same time up the profile as a result of your post. So as Im sourcing 235/85/16 could you advise on the best width size rims to get please? Some charts show 16 x 7 and others 16 x 8. Im just concerned that opting for the D2 'standard' 8" that the 235s would not be optimised due to their being narrow. I see I will need to adjust the stops though. Any advice would be much obliged. Thanks. Paul

235s will go easily on either width to be honest but your main consideration should be the wheel offset over the hub. A wider offset will give a wider track and will help with clearance from the taller tyres.
Ideally you should look for a negative number or at least a 00ET, keep an eye on your lock stops and adjust as necessary.
Something like this would be ideal.

Hi ya, I’m new to disco 2, mines running 235/70/16 road tyres but been offered decent set of AT 235/85/16 on defender wheels, been told they will go straight on my td5 disco 2 but not sure. Found your post and just want to check if the wheels will fit straight on or if the tyres will fit without any alterations to anything. Thanks

Wrong PCD on the rims. They physically won’t fit. Tyres might fit, but are taller than stock and could rub without other supporting mods. But might be ok.
