Also, big tyres are much more difficult to balance, often noisy on the road, and very expensive if one gets written off by a blackthorn through the sidewall or a flint slashing it open.Thanks
Theres more to consider than I realised.
They are only really worth the hassle for those that want to drive in serious competition or heavy offroading.
Average user will be better off with standard, or a size or two over.
I agree with the comments suggesting a tall narrow tyre,as opposed to wide. For me, they are better suited to usual conditions in Britain, deserts are not the norm here!
