Ow yes I understand it's the percentage of the width
I guess the difference between a 255 and a 235 is only 20 mm on the width. That not that much extra tread

hi guys
I bought my new tyres today
I was recommended by land rover that I should use 235/70/16r. So I went down the garage with my new rims got the tyres fitted and the guy asked me for the wheel bolts

so I have found that the bolts I have on my car
are to small

so yet more money

Did you talk to the toilet cleaner at Land rover. 235/70/16 are not fitted to the P38. Standard sizes for that vehicle are 255/65/16 or 255/55/18. 235/70/16 were fitted to classics. You must have had L322 wheels on with the smaller shanked nuts. You will now have to buy a set of standard nuts for your new wheels. ANR3679 X 16 plus four locking nuts.

yeah I've just bought a set for £40 from flea bay

I don't know what model they are?
. They advised me that this was the closest size I can put on these wheels.
This other guy on eBay is/was using them. ?

As long as they don't fall of and I don't get stuck in the mud I don't care. To late now any how.

Silly goodridge for making silly sizes I say

The rim size should be embossed on them. If they are 7J you fitted correct tyres if they are 8J you didn't.

Ok my wheels are 8j.
I have had a good look on the internet and I found a site full of hard core off roaders and they have also told me that this is the closest size I can put of these wheels. As you say I can't put a 255/70/16 because of the incorrect speed issue
But 235/70/16 can be fitted and work very well apparently.

This info has also been backed up by goodridge them selfs.

So bottom line is......
They are round and have tread on them and as long as I can get to my little bees ok (happy days)

What do I know anyway I fix photocopiers not cars
Hence I'm asking silly questions all the time 😳

There are other makes of tyre. I rather think the speed issue was explained in some detail to you. A difference of 1 MPH at an indicated 30 MPH is hardly a significant problem. The newer speedometer laws are not retrospective.
