OK Bit the bullet and paid for an hour access to Land Rovers TOPIx system for the Tech Bulletins for the 2003 L322....

As attached.....I think Bix is right and along with Hippo too....the little plastic float is a low tech SG bulb that will tend to sink in the wrong SG of Coolant...mine must be duff....

I eat my hat and apologise!

You piad for an hour? Download everything!

But don't forget copyright and intellectual property rights or you could burn.
I wouldn't do such a thing....!!

I have a personal Blog on www.thegreenoval.co.uk maybe you should check it out as there maybe some information that would be of use to a discerning L322 Owner, if they ever get stuck ;)

Quick thread hijack .................... Saint on your site with regards to steering wheel reach adjustment, it says to put some grease on when re-assembling. Firstly I am NOT taking mine apart. All I want to do is grease/spray the column to get rid of a squeak. Do you know if silicon spray would be a better option than grease? If not any particular grease, or just whatever my indie uses on similar jobs?
Thanks in advance.

 The squeak arrives just before failure:eek:

A good quality Silicon Spray would do the job, but it may need reapplying more often than grease due to its viscosity...grease being thicker and less prone to drying out, I would stick to a good quality Multi Purpose grease, or even a Copper Based Grease...Lithium Based are more suited to high temp pplications as is wasted on the steering adjustment screw jacks.

Then it's taking it's time to fail as this has been nipping my head for over a year ;)
