best way to turn crankshaft?

Hi all, wanting to set my pump timing and wondered how can I turn the crankshaft to align the flywheel lock tool. All I have read is ' rotate crankshaft till it lines up' not actually stating how or with what. I can't get anything down to the crankshaft bolt to turn and the viscous coupling is in the way.and havnt got the spanner to remove that. Anything else I could try?

Did the belt on my TD a couple of months ago. The best way I found was to put it in gear (4th or 5th) jack up a front wheel and turn it.

I use a socket on a ratchet down the back of the fan, 32 or 30 mm. I usually hurt myself in some way, and sometimes forget to remove the ratchet, and scare myself silly when I start the engine.

Don't know about a disco but you can get to the crank bolt on a fender from underneath.

can you access the ring gear on the flywheel and lever that round?

Possibly freelance, the idea was to do it yesterday, but remembered my mate still has my axle stands Aaaaarrrrrgggggh hate when that happens.

Ratchet on alternator is another way but i usually put it in 5th and turn a wheel

General way is socket on main crank pulley bolt only turn In normal engine direction as a rule of thumb

Engine on mine is so slack and the compressions so crap I can turn it with a 6inch spanner on the back of the fan
