Having looked at various post on here, I am wondering what is the best way to blank the egr valve on a td5 on an 03 plate - either just fit the blanking plate and leave it in place, or remove it completely? does the electrics and pipe work need to be disconnected from this?hopefully im aiming to give it more revs lower down the gears, primarilly for towing purposes as at present while pulling well it seems to be lacking something? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. .

once you've blanked it off it makes no difference if it opens or closes so you can leave the electrics connected. if you want to go one stage further, you can replace the inlet pipe and clean out the manifold.

I removed the whole shebang on mine and it made a big diference, go for the full kit and completely remove the EGR valve rather than just blanking it off.

Hi there Morgaha, the best way of De-EGR'ing a TD5 is complete removal of the EGR valve itself. This is particularly important on post 2002 cars.

Follow the link for an excellent value kit of bits to do the full job.

Thanks for your replies guys, think i'll be removing the whole thing, might as well, just one more question though. In some posts they refer to vaccum pipes attated to the egr valve, and needing to block them off, do you need a particular kit to do this as well?

Yes you do need a kit - it's called a screw !!!!! Literally, you just put a screw in the end of the rubber pipe to block it off !!!
