best tyres off road

Despite clever people saying they love their extreme off road MT tyres and are quite happy driving on road at speed, in relation to driving on 'on-road' tyres they are truly crap. There's a reason why other types of tyre exist. It ain't about buying the butchest manly'ish massive extreme treads money can buy, though it seems like it sometimes. Get some quality AT tyres to start you off

I've never felt a tyre that's good on and off road. "All terrains" are a total con. There's no such thing as all terrain, they're just road tyres but less comfortable for no good reason. Either get mud terrains and accept they're bad on road or get road tyres and don't go off road.

i have maxxis buckshot mudders and i realy think theyre quite good on road

ok ive not driven it with 33x12.5 road tyres on, but theyre not uncomforatble or noisy.

that said, theyre not the best off road cos theyre very round, so they dont really dig.

ah well :)

I have those too. I think they are fantastic tyres but in the wet on road, they're still not very good. If there is such a thing as on off road tyre that can go on road those are them but they're definitely still an off road tyre. Shame EU regulations killed them. (But that wasn't surprising as they have effectively killed the defender and many other things in life that were enjoyable.)

true say mate.

tbh i dont think the disco is capable of outperforming the tyres so wet or dry they seem to drive the same - i only noticed that they are extremely quiet and smooth on road, and dont appear to have worn AT ALL after about 1000 road miles.

very pleased with them. wish i had something more aggressive for off road, but at 280 for these they were a steal.

cheers.

I got mine for 380 including wheels. The reason they were stopped was because of noise regulations. I can't agree less with that. They are not noisy at all and worse tyres are still being made.

maybe its cos theyre new tyres - think of simex copies etc, noisy as hell but remoulds.

i cannot hear any tyre noise off the buckshots - very odd that theyve banned them.

fook knows :(

Got right on my nerves. I looked everywhere for another set when these wear (although after 8000 miles they're like new). I found the Maxxis bighorns after a lot of searching. Almost the same pattern but still being made.

i have 33x12.5x15s as above liuke new but with a few off roading cuts in the outer blocks

dont know if youre interested in buying?

it's not like i can decide what i would replace them with, but its just a thought.

cheers

No thanks. Mine are still like new after thousands of miles so they've got plenty of life in them. I think next time I'll get some insa special tracks and maybe a set of road tyres as well.

no worries bud

i'd like to keep them for general offroading and for laning, and then get a more aggressive set aswell for pnp days, the fedima range looks very good, but i cant stomach 500 quid+ for tyres at the minute!

I must be the only person on here rating Kumho KL71 tyres! Quiet on the road, handle quite good except for stopping in the wet, which is the same for most. And never once failed me off road either. I'd buy these again any day.

I just cant see them being aggressive enough mate, not much tread, big tread blocks (not great for sloppy mud) and a directional pattern so worse in reverse!

Personally I just couldnt see them working! :(

But if you're happy, then maybe some of us are missing out!

Cheers :)
