For heavy pulling I use 15 ton strops. I have two 24mm x 3m poly tow ropes for usin as bridles. I have several different chains and shackles and I have a kinetic rope for dire emergencies. I've had it for around 10 years and have yet to use it.

I have all sorts of bits and pieces in me garage. Different lengths, different weight limits etc

Prefer to have a decent selection of stuff so I can use something properly suited to the job than a massive long strop that might make it hard work.....tend to pick up stuff I see laying round site if its going to waste. Got a fair few lifting strops, some crane strops, about a million rated shackles (1/2 ton up to 25ton), brothers, extension brothers, numerous snatch blocks, wire bonds etc etc

3 x 2T (Green) strops 6mtr iirc

2 x 2t circular strops.

20ft approx length of inch & half ships hawser. has a fair bit of "stretch" which helps to absorb any jerking or yanking when setting off but isn't dangerous unlike kinetics.

lots of 3.5tonne shackles.

20ft length of chain somewhere?? and a tirfor with 12mm cable

Out of interest, why do people avoid chain like the plague? I've got a brilliant 40ft length of very heavy duty chain that i intend to use for recovery. Is this not a good idea? I like the fact that if it breaks (yeah right, I could hang the landy off it!) it would just drop, not ping everywhere. Is it just the weight that people find off putting?

weights one problem. trying to load it into the back of ya motor when it's covered in mud, without getting covered in it ya self. is another.

I have 2 7t strops, one 22mm poly rope, 6 5t tree strops and one kinetic rope that has been used once.
As for chain don't think I would get one or use it.

I brought hundreds down from CharlesY in Lanarkshire and there are still a couple left at my parents house nr Cambridge but I'm in the NW Highlands now and can't really help

I'd still have a couple of these of you Jack, I get down Cambridge way occassionally, I know you're not there but I can paypal payment for them.

The trouble with chain is that there is no give in it, consequently it can damage your motor, even a slight snatch is like a hammer blow.

totally agree. surprised it wasnt mentioned earlier.
it WILL find the weakest point on your motor if allowed to snap tight.

I have a chain too, forgot to say, not for towing or recovery with a vehicle, but to use with the Hi-Lift as a winching tool .. no give, good for winches .. Used with 2 choke hooks so I don't need to re-set everything every time .. ;)

Yep. I didn't have my chain on board my Landy when I went to extract JonnyPajero after he got stuck and with no ratchet either it made it a long winded job.:(

If its the army strops that you get when you sign for a landy, then there rated at 7T Black strop. Red sleeve There is a SWL tag on the yellow end.

No they are of various mod vehicles. Mine are green and have loops at the end which are covered in leather so they are very high quality and pretty old. There is no SWL tags left on them

I know the ones your on about... Their ether the duplex or simplex ones from trucks, the simplex are single ply at 8T. if there the duplex double ply then 14t I can't remember the make but the ratings I do know. But I would need to see a pic to be sure.
But that is when new so used I would say try not to put that much on them.
