Hi - a quick question. Does anyone have any recommendations in terms of which snow chains to get for an L322? I see on Ebay there are cheap kits to fit any car based on the tyre size and then at the other end of the specturm, expensive Range Rover 'snow traction systems' which cost nearly £500! I'm hoping to spend sub £50 as long as they're effective.

Cheers

Might have sporty road biased tyres I guess. Snow socks are much easier to use than chains - they don't damage the road surface as much either. As above if you've already got 4x4 type tyres then you shouldn't need chains or socks.

Have you ever used snow chains,
1. its got to be real bad for a landrover to need them
2. its got to be real bad before you will want to fit them .
3. if you have alloys dont get a cheapo set ,as they can cause damage
4. cheap ones dont last very well , RUD, Weissenfels etc are the better makes. HTSH

I bought two pair of Pewag SNOX for my 18" and I really loved them. My P38 is fitted with Bridgestone Dueler Sport tires so last winter I wanted to play safe and Snow chain give the best traction and emergency stop performances.

The Pewag SNOX are light and easy to fit, highly recommended

Anyway, despite having 30 to 40cm of snow each night, the only moment I needed them was when they started to clean the road and reveal the ice below the snow. Otherwise and even with my "Summer" tire climbing mountain road was amazingly easy!

So glad I wasn't the only one thinking 'what do you need those for?' when I saw the thread. We've had 'interesting' levels of snow the past 2 winters and one of our horses was in a livery in a farm up a pig of a hill with an almost 90degree turn on it. Only 2 vehs were making it up ...... my L322 and the farmer's tractor.
Everyone else, the toyotas, the mitsis, the jeeps, the pretend 4x4s (beemer and merc) were losing traction between a third and halfway up. Not fun for them but sooooooo funny to watch them sliding back down. I sat back and let them all play then slowly but surely climbed up the hill, making sure I did not lose grip because no way was my nice shiny car going to end up sliding around like an idiot and scratching the paintwork on the hedges! Only down side being people then asking for a lift up so they could tend to their horses :(

Thanks for the responses. I live in England but I am doing a road trip to St Petersburg and Moscow in the New Year so getting everything planned now.

Thanks for the names - I will check out Rud, Weissenfels and Pewag SNOX.

Much appreciated.
