Best place to get a rebuilt 1.8i?

maybe the guy who built it up had a bad day, made a mistake, rushed the job - who knows

I've had heads from Turners that have clearly not been through a competent QC department, or the added bonus of having chunks of swarf stuck to bores ....

as i said before, in the absence of someone coming up with a suggestion for another company (ideally one that's never made a mistake before) who can provide what the OP is asking for ......
 
Fine,after they "repaired it" it managed nearly 800 miles before trashing itself in a different way.I'd rather trust Richard Turner.
 
You really do like to argue the toss,I suggested talking to Frida Turner for a recommendation as their site didnt list an engine.The OP asked in the title for the BEST place for an engine.From the multiple experience I have had from both places,Macdonalds is not one I would suggest,Turners I have made money from and had satisfied customers.Macdonalds have been the opposite - which would you recommend ?

am not arguing at all chap - however i would have hoped someone with your apparent experience would have been able to be more positive with your advice, as opposed to pointing the OP to a head specialist

but hey what do i know, at least he'll have a good head
 
You just proved my point,Turners are not just head specialists,for the third time I suggested talking to Frida Turner to ask for a recommendation if they could not help with a full engine.With my experience in question maybe I should just shut up and let the OP spend their money in whatever way they want.

Other than trying to wind people up,do you have any function on this forum - I dont remember seeing any useful technical help at all,suggesting a conmpany which could have easily been a google search does not count.Why are you on here ?

getting back to the OPs request, have you no other suggestions to help him ?

I dont want to be involved in mud slinging match,I have no interest in that,if the OP is serious about a replacement engine then if he sends me a PM I can price up to supply whatever spec he wants an engine built to - if he can wait a couple of months.As I said he is clearly asking for a good quality unit,my experiences of Macdonald engines are that he may not get that.
I dont do handbags,that goes straight over the top,many years of dealing with very picky LR owners has made me immune to people digging.
It just occured to me that Wards of Rugby may be a good place to try.

Look,its been a long time since I worked in the engine reconditioning business,I dont get paid for this,(Money tends to focus my mind,to allow me to spend more on trials bikes.) and I'm tired - both from work and of land Rovers in general.Like I said it only just occured to me.
