Best jack for 90

Hi - took ownership of my first landy a few weeks back. It did not come with a jack so if I get a flat I'm buggered. I was thinking of getting a hydraulic jack for use at home in the garage but what jack would you recommend for keeping in the landy?

Assuming you can jack straight onto the axle when at home but where do you jack on the chassis when out and about?

The holes in the rear crossmember and in the chassis under the front bumper are the normal jacking points.The thing supplied with the landy is rubbish anyway so no loss.I carry a bottle jack with a u cup on top for general use[fits behind seats] and also have a high lift/farm jack whitch uses the original jack points and have a foot sqare bit of heavy ply to spread the load on soft ground.

I bought a Discovery bottle jack from ebay for £35 - very good and it has a u-shaped top that the axles sit in - which normal bottle jack's don't have. Some others have also suggested that you can use a Merc Sprinter jack as these also have the u-shaped top.

I have as hi-lift fixed to the back of my 90 but when at home I have a trolley jack and just use the diffs to lift and axle stands and chocks for safety. Halfords had a sale of trolley jacks last week ... 2.25 ton 4x4 jacks reduced from about £80 to £34.99 ... may be worth a check!

Much the same, although I just carry a bottle-jack in the Landy. Trolley-jack and axle-stands at home though!

Apologies for the hijack - but I've seen hi-lift jacks mounted on the rear of Landys, but haven't been able to work out what they're attached to. Are they home-made? What do they bolt on to?

Hi ... I bought a 4x4RAC mounting kit which is basically two brackets with four bolts holding each. Mine is mounted upright on the offside just above the foglight. Hope that helps.

I just have a little 2 tonne trolley jack in the landy. Carry a little block of wood around to protect the axle casing, and it lifts it just high enough to change a wheel, which is fine

Cool - cheers for that. Will have a look around!

If you store a high lift on the outside keep it well oiled or it wont work when you need it.

if ya can collect it i have a genuine defender jack going for free

Yep a 5 tonne bottle jack is ideal for changing flat tyres out and about but the Sealey 3 tonne trolley jacks are the best for the garage, really stable and dont stuggle like hell to lift the weight like the small 2 tonne ones do.
