So the V8 90 has reached a quarter of a million miles and needs diffs, transfer box and an engine rebuild. What's my best option of a donor disco, what's the best V8 to go for and how new can i go using as much donor running gear as possible? I'll be rebuilding the 3.5 over the next year ready to go back in when the disco V8 slips it's liners/head gasket goes....

If get a 300

Ok ok, the 3.9 is not my fave lump because I instinctively prefer the small bore engines BUT I suppose one has to accept that horsepower comes with increasing the bore size.

Best thing about 300 is it is a serpentine engine and has r380 gearbox and factory 24 spline axles which will bring your 90 right up to date.

Just remember to change the input flange on the disco rear diff to a proper 4 bolt so you can use your prop.

You will probably enjoy the 3.9 and choose to keep it, make sure you ditch the cats though!

The 3.5 (flapper) RRC engine is much smoother idling than the 3.9 discos.

Well Mr Noisy, whats a proper 4 bolt flange are there two types is one better than the other??
The 300 series 3.9s from 1996/7/8 had a 4 bolt flange fitted when they left the factory hence the question.:D
