been there played this game and the best way for me is to light a fire and get the a frame out and the ball joint all off the motor apply said ball joint to fire put more wood on and have a cuppa tea find my welding gloves and a set of tongs and either race over to the vice or my press and it comes out like butter but you do need a helper and a second pair of gloves in your gauntlets other wise things get very hot and it cools down to much (needs about an hour cooking time in a good fire or till is glowing light orange)

I tried to get my ball joint out of its bracket with a press and put 25 tons on it and it wouldn't come out. It's distorted the bracket now, so I wouldn't want to refit it. I shall just carry on buying the ball joint and bracket complete kits when I need a new one in the future.

Buy a press anyway. Every home should have one. It's enabled me to breeze through suspension bush changes - squeeze them out effortlessly complete with their metal jackets - and propshaft joint changes. Remember when the artiste formerly known as Redhand had one that wouldn't come out? That wouldn't have been a problem in our house. One of mine didn't want to shift and I carried on pressing until the bearing cup shattered and it came out in pieces. So it hardly slowed me down at all.

After a month or two you'll wonder how you managed without one.

Tried to press 'A' frame ball joint out, left it with full pressure on while I had a brew but it didn't budge.

Then I realised that the part of the bracket that was on the block underneath taking the weight , the bit with the screw holes in, is part of the joint so it would never have come out.:rolleyes::rolleyes:
I had to cut the bits off that have the screw holes in so as to bear on the casting and not part of the joint and then it popped out after three pumps on the jack.....reeeeesult:D

Very good press for the money 120 quid plus vat:)
