Best and worst modifications

I'm in the process of buying a 1988 range rover efi and was thinking of tweaking it to do a bit of offroading. What mods have you guys made and what do you advise as the best, most value for money and what have you bought that you've found to be useless. Any tips tricks and views welcome.

In the process of lightly modifying a 1994 at the moment. A chap round the corner has a cracking Vogue in that lovely pale silvery-blue metallic. 2" lift, 31.5" BFG MT's on silver modulars, jigsawed wheel arches, home made tubular bumpers and a Rebel4x4 steering guard with recovery eyes. It looks the daddy and performs great off-road.

I dont have upgraded shocks on at the moment hence the wheel nicely up in the air.I have 2"lifted springs, Diff guard on the front.Insa Turbo Dakars 265/75/16 and the only thing i had to do was adjust the steering stops to prevent hitting against the radius arms.Lost some turning circle but it's worth it.Performs really well and went everywhere it was asked.Great fun.
I got back on monday, a friend close to me, fitted my steering guard, but i didn't really need it when i was running without it. You dont need to go overboard on everything. Your car needs good tyres on it and it'll give you good fun as it is.

first, simplest and cheapest mod is to get rid of the front fender(if you got one) the owers manual itself tells you this increases mpg and increases angle of ascent.And i think it makes the motor look more agressive.The next mod i recommend is get a decent set of tyres and see what the old girl will do nearly stock.Shell surpise/impress ya.

And get some recovery points for when ya push ya luck.If ya not stuck ya not trying hard enough
