Hi All,
Got a Discovery 300tdi. Vin no : -----TA171823. I want to replace both "vee belts" but am confused about which ones I need.
There's a big one which does Crankshaft, Alternator, Water Pump, Fan and Steering Pump, and a second smaller width for the Air Con.
Could anyone give me the correct part numbers please.
Many thanks.
David.

Hi David, with that VIN number, your belts should be flat not a V and the part numbers are:

Serpentine belt for alternator etc: ERR5911 Serpentine Belt 300TDI from MA163104 (WEB EXCLUSIVE SPECIAL OFFER)

Aircon belt I couldn't find, sorry.

Cheers and good luck

Dave

Thanks for that - I thought those numbers were probably correct, but Paddocks list several others some of which seem to depend on VIN numbers and some which don't.
Yes - they ARE flat belts - I just haven't adjusted to the proper modern vocabulary yet. Serpentine is a big pond in London as far as I'm concerned.
Cheers,
David.

I like that David - very good.

I think you'll find that the other VIN-related belts are actually timing belts, a different and wonderful thing, which you will become accustomed to, soon.

Incidently, when you come to change the alternator serpentine belt, if I may advise you, take off the plastic top cover of the radiator which will expose the fan. Using a viscous fan spanner (about a £5 from Halfords) and turn anticlockwise to undo and take off - it gives loads more room to work. If it doesn't want to come undone (not unusuall) give the spanner a sharp tap and that usually breaks the hold.

Then, using a long-handled ratchet and appropriate socket, lever the spring-loaded idler away from the belt, by turning it anti-clockwise and whilst you have it levered away, lift-off the old belt, noting how it is threaded around the various pulleys. Putting the new one on is the same in reverse.

It's a lot easier to do than to describe, should only take 5-10 mins.

Cheers and good luck

Dave

Cheers for now

Dave

The ac belt is ERR2215 Belt-polyvee air conditioning compressor, in LR speek.
U 'should' find the part no. printed on the existing belt.

So the 300tdi has two Serpentine belts where as the V8 has one to drive every thing.

""It's a lot easier to do than to describe, should only take 5-10 mins.""

Pull the other one biglad, u need arms like Popeye to move the idlar pully, it tool me several attempts and the job took 1/2 an hour.

Land Rover say replace the belt/s every five years, I've just replaced mine and that was after ten years, it had cracks on the grooved side but the Haynes book states thats normal.

I must say that I don't particularly have arms like Popeye, but I believe I did say "using a long-handled ratchet and appropriate socket"

Mine doesn't have aircon so I can't speak from experience on that matter.

Anyway, the most important thing is that you got it done.

Cheers
Dave
