bell end

on the series land rovers you have that 3-4 leavered box any way i need to have a bit of advice on taking the bell housing piece off as the twax wont come off ive undone the four bots holding the housing to the actuall box undone the hi-low leaver undone the inner piece to support the shaft there should be 10 to undo well the leaver piece 11 its loose and has come so far and its not moving any more HELP!!!

The bellhousing forms the front end of the gearbox and it houses the primary shaft bearing and the layshaft bearing. The layshaft is attached onto the bearing by a securing bolt or a nut on earlier boxes. Undo it. The layshaft may be a tight fit into the bearing, so you could undo the thee nuts around the layshaft bearing which will allow the layshaft bearing to withdraw from the bellhousing instead.

watch out for things going 'sproing tinkle tinkle' when the bell end finally gives.
