I have recently bought an 08 plate Freelander 2. After starting the engine there is a loud beeping noise that appears to come from the headlining area above the passenger seat. This happens about 1 minute after engine start. It beeps 7-8 times and then stops. It never happens again during a journey. However it happens after every engine start-up. Any ideas please? Unfortunately the car didn’t come with an owners manual so I have been unable to research. Thank you.

There's nothing in the roof that will make a beeping sound, at least nothing factory fitted.
What model is it?

Please don't be offended, but is this when you start up and are parked with your front/rear within a few feet of a wall or other obstacle?
It isn't a parking proximity warning is it?
I don't know the car, but it is all I can think of.

No it’s not the parking sensors. Very different and high pitched beeping.

Any messages on the dash?
"Sunroof not Set" "Window Not Set"?
These I get on my P38 Range Rover, but I do not know what you get on a Freelander.

The sunroof isn’t working could it have anything to do with that?

It could be the roof motor attempting to close the glass panel. It needs looking at, as it could be drawing power, which could cause something to heat up.

It's unusual for the sunroof to go wrong, so maybe there's a simple fault to rectify?

Well, took the fuse out for the sunroof (it was not blown) for a few minutes and put it back . I now have a fully working sunroof. Turns out the beeping is from the passenger door pillar - is it side airbag related? The passenger airbag switch is in the on position.

I don't know of any issues where the airbag would make a noise.

The switch only disables the front passenger airbag, but the curtain airbags will always fire if required.

Could the noise be from the speaker in the dash or door?
