This lever in the cab of me Series 3.....

Near the gear levers, thought it was something to do with the heating/vents...

Seems now (After seeing one on e-bay, that it is a hand throttle, not connected though...

Soooo how does it connect, how do I remove it to overhaul etc...

And also what is its purpose, no I'm not stupid enough to want it as a cruise control!!!:eek:
 
it fer military use wiff radios etc. you set the revs to charge up the radio batteries. if my memory is right it has a cable from it to the carbatooter. as fer takin it orf i think it is just a couple of screws.

Cheers, but mine aint ex military and its diesel.......

Could it have been to keep engine revs high for same reason but to aid use of winch, as I think a winch may have been fitted at some time in its life.. No sign of extra cables etc though...
 
I found it quite handy on me diesel III (weren't military either, thought they all 'ad 'em?)

I set it up a notch or two on really cold mornings to keep the revs up a tad & stop me engine running lumpy.

It's main proper use is for PTO's or mechanical capstans I guess. Wouldn't have taken mine off tho', found it quite handy achally.
 
dunno about doosuls as i nevva seen a doosul during 10 years fixing landys in HMF, but the ffr landies all had them fitted and they was all petrol and the only landies with winches i seen was the v8 101's. ask me one on swivels or ign. go on
 
You fixed Landys? Fer the forces? Fer 10 years? Jeesh! Lucky there weren't a war or they'd be getting there on bikesikels & probably still be waiting fer their Landys to be sorted when they got back!

Did see a tidy III a while back with a capstan on it, wuz quite tempted to fit one meself fer occasional winching without fekin up me battery. Mind you I'd probably spoil it by putting a lighthouse on it so's I cud find it in the dark.

Ha!!

Have traced the linkage now, all makes sense if you look at things closely....

Tightened a couple of nuts, some ACF50 on the moving bits, and I now have a cold start assist......:D
 
S'catchin' that, bit like herpes!

You'll appreciate it when it gets really icy out (no, not herpes). I found it best not to use it until after I'd fired up, then oik it up a couple of notches for the first few miles.

Don't matter if you forget it, the increased idle speed'll soon remind you when you pull up.
 
on civvy landys, its there mainly for the farmers and for use with the pto.
very handy for the mini saw mill, running off the landy!

what are you wittering on about ? just aswell you wint there they'll all have big glass bowls over the cupola's and be running around like summin from moonraker
