Hi i've done a search and can't find the answer to this odd question I have,
I'm breaking my p38 and took the BeCM out to sell (try) I have noticed on ebay that they normally sell with igniton lock door lock and key.

Do you need the pick up on the igniton lock, is it programmed to key / becm or is it the fact that the key is programmed to the becm and they just sell the locks with it to make life easy.

So the main question is can the person buying my becm just put there key blade on to my remote key, plug the becm in and away they go.
 
You should really sell the BeCM with all ignition keys as they are set to the BeCM and neither can be reprogrammed. You should also include the drivers door and glovebox locks. Also include the chassis number, as should new keys be required without this the new owner is stuffed. The new owner will still require Testbook or similar when they change the BeCM as the other ECUs will need to be programmed to the new BeCM and the alarm syncronised. I've not actually done a BeCM change, I'm sure others can give more advice.
 
The Becm, keys, all locks-including glove box and ignition barrel together with the VIN of the donor car should be sold together. The more keys you have, the higher the price. The transponder coil around the ignition switch barrel is not specific to one car, it just prompts the keyfob to send it's code, it does not decipher it.
If the Becm is off a GEMS V8 then there is a chance that it would be swappable provided the keyfob(s) are changed. Also there is the type of Becm that has to be considered. There are two Becm levels, "H" & "L" , if the Becm in the car is a "L" (Low line) and the donor Becm is an "H" or "L", they are interchangeable. But if the existing Becm is an "H" (High Line) and the donor is "L" they are not as they do not have the additional equipment provision built in, memory seats, sunroof etc.
Generally, a "H" will sell better than a "L" unless the buyer is happy to swap his existing "L" over.
Next there are the engine , gearbox and odometer settings. There are four engine types available..GEMS, THOR, Bosch Diesel and Early Diesel, added to that there is Auto and Manual transmission. Throw in the hat the fact that the donor mileage is stored in the Becm, let's say it's 150000 miles. Your car has done 90000 miles, you swap the Becm and your car will suddenly jump to 150000 because the Instrument cluster will update to the higher figure. Finally, the Engine ecu security code (EMS), if it's a diesel or Thor, the EMS is unique and stored in the engine ecu, it's not changeable. Lets say that the donor Becm came off a Diesel and the EMS was 5567, this number would be programmed in the Becm. You fit the donor Becm to your own diesel but your EMS is 9254, result.....engine won't start because the codes are different. More than likely your Synchmate (If you have one) won't work either.
So, to sum up....it looks easy but there are many pitfalls and the donor Becm will have to be setup by someone with the specialised Becm software..not Testbook, because it doesn't have the capability to change the settings to a locked Becm.

irishrover you do know you stuff, right i'll now explain why I want / need to keep a key, the shell / chassie is going back on the road so the block with want a door key at least and would be handy to leave the igntion lock in,

so I wanted to sell the becm with 2 remote keys (without blades) and the pick up around the ignition lock (if i can get it off) so there's no need to change the locks, the buyer can just put there key blade on my remote key

Right.....O.K., Sell the fobs without the blades. No need to touch your pick up coil (Exciter coil) or your ignition switch barrel, other locks etc. You should still let the buyer of the Becm have your VIN in case they wish to order another key from the main dealer at any time. If the buyer only has one key, he can get a key blank from Egay and have it cut to his original by any decent locksmith and fit it to the spare fob.
The rest that I have written with regard to unlocking the Becm and changing the settings still stands.
One thing puzzles me though......If you are selling the car minus the Becm but with a key, how is the buyer of the car going to get it running :eek:.
They will have to start from scratch !!!
For peace of mind, I would get your Becm unlocked and the settings, coding data etc. read and a copy of the print out given to the buyer.
