Good evening all,
Hope we are all ready for Christmas and looking forward to the presents and turkey!

Anyways just thought I'd post this up to help people out. I have a 1985 one ten. All the rubber round the doors and everything in between had seen better days. I can't confirm that the seals in place are the originals and bar the one that is riveted to the bottom of the sill and the one between the door bottoms and tops I think I'd be surprised if they where originals.

I tried doing a bit of research on the quality of aftermarket ones and found a lot of people where saying the aftermarket ones were a poor quality hard rubber with no holes for air to escape when the door is shut.

I looked about and found that the genuine land rover ones are nothing but pocket rape! So I decided to try bearmachs seals. I got both the front left and right door seals, riveted bottom door seals both sides. Both seals for doortops and bottoms of split military doors aswell as a rear door seal, 88 thermostat and the two large rubber plugs either side of the fuse box in the bulk head delivered for about £65.

They arrived in great time and although i am yet to fit them I was very surprised to find all but one type of seal are a really high quality soft rubber with holes just like the genuine ones. I also noticed that every seal but one was made in India. Which got me thinking as LR is now Indian owned if they where in fact made in the same factory as the genuine ones. The others where made in Turkey and are quite a tough rubber. So I sent a message to bearmach asking if they could confirm any of my thoughts and concerns over the lesser bottom door seal rubber.

They sent a very informative email in response which I have uploaded for your reading. Basically stating that the Indian seals where changed 2 years ago and are the same spec as genuine ones and that the bottom seals from Turkey are oe parts used by the Turkish military.

Now obviously I don't have a brand new genuine lr seal to compare with the ones I have here but at around £12 a side for a seal over paying almost £80 for a LR one to me it seams a no brainer.

I work it tool distribution and know that we have both out own brand tools that are made in the same molds and colours as Irwin and sell them at a fraction of the costs which are all now made in Chinese factories. We have had irwin branded tools arrive in our own brand boxes before.
So with that thought If the LR ones are now made in India why not the same factory for bearmach??

All the best,
Mac
