me front wheel bearing is starting to go and so i popped along to me local landrover garage here in Austria to see what it would cost. they quoted 700 euro. now is it just me or are they takin the **** a bit with that? anyone know how much the cost in England and are they reasonably easy to change? i thaught i'd pop one in me hand lugguage next time i'm back home.

what is that in £ sterling?! sounds alot. Think the bearing kits are £15 from paddocks each. so that 30quid for the fronts and then postage to Austria if you wanted it. fit it yourself, they are pretty straight forward. make sure you get a 52mm hub spanner (£5) when you order the bearings. i spent ages looking for a 52mm socket before i realised you could get these! make sure you have a haynes with you and take it from there. bearing kit, spanner, grease. easy.

well, axle stands, jack, wheel brace, circlip pliers, socket set too! usual garage stuff.

700 euro is about 500 pound. i thaught they were comin it a bit when the gave me the quote. on previous motors i've had when I was livin back home in England, i only payed around a ton for the bearings to be replaced. it would almost be cheaper to drive back and get the work done there!

trouble is i don't really have access to the tools. i've got a load at home at me old mans place but thats about as much use as a chocolate tea pot really

well you could buy all the tools and all the bits for les than a ton! gotta be better than 500 nicker. and you get some new tools. i reckon it will take you a day to get both fronts done... at the most.

and those are the OE ones. the 3rd parties are about 4.50. with oil seals and gaskets etc. its prob gonna be 10-15 per corner. and then your tools...

right im off to bed,

DO IT!

yeah i fink i will be going down to the local motor shop and buy the tools me'self. fookin BMW garage, thats what it is

nice one G'dowg, i certainly will do that. bit o' diy. i'm sure Bustersbus has a plethora of photos on the subject.
