ok, the light is on before start up then goes off after. So how do i test whether the wire or alternator is working ?
i.e. the alternator could be knackered but because the wire is broken i would never know, hence why i want to test the wire

cheers

as i asked before - how would the light come on (even before the engine is running) if the wire was broken ?

no, sorry,

Its ok i have answered my own question - I meant what if they had both failedhow would i know, but the answer isto test the alternator across the batery.

So just to clarify ( i think im having a blonde day) - My warning light was on very dim, i have replaced alternator , but the light was still on very dim, i replaced a part of the wire in which some of the wire was bared, the light has turned off. What i dont get is why, if some of the wire was bared was the light coming on, shouldnt it go off?

Cheers
