Re: 2000 W REG LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 2.5 TD5 GS 7 SEAT 5DR AUTO

Hi,

I am new to forum and it's the first time I have owned a Land Rover. Bought a secondhand one a few weeks ago, everything is really good with it except for trouble with the battery.

The problem is inconsistent. Some days I can leave it overnight, come out and it will start fine. On other occassions I have simply parked for a couple of hours and it won't start.

I have done quite a few long journeys in the car and the AA have confirmed that something is obviously draining the battery. Other than that the quality and general charge of the battery is not a problem and everything seems fine.

Having read some of the forum posts I suspect the problem lies with one of the following issues:

1. Immobiliser - when car is locked the red light keeps flashing (even after an hour or so). Could this be the source of the problem? Not sure what receiver is installed but could it be that it is the one which receives WIFI signals and is drainign battery? How do I find out?
2. There is something wrong I suspect with the electrics for the suspension. The battery is now flat and it won't start and the two yellow lights (one with the landy with two arrows and the other with the landy and an up arrow) are illuminated when i try and start the car. I can also hear something electrical trying to happen when the key is turned to position 2 coming from the back right side of the landy.

So, I'm a bit stumped! Pretty vexed that this keeps happening about three times a week and I need to sort it out.

Have jump started the landy each time battery drained, had the battery on full charge on mains and it keeps discharging when parked. Something is obviously not turning off when car is turned off and locked and is causing me a bit of a headache!!

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Many thanks,

Ben

Mine had very similar problem, landy would drain when left unlocked though and sometimes would not start in the morning.

I found 2 problems, the earth strap that went to the chassis was corroded and when testing the hcarge rate on battery it was not charging properly, so I ran the earth lead directly to the engine and now charges fine, but this left the battery no good, so I replaced the battery and now all seems fine.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the response. I'll make a note of that and add it to the list of things to check.

With you imobiliser the red LED will flash all the time just like they do in other vehicles, WIFI/reciever problems effect the vehicle locking/unlocking not current drain, but any electronic device you have fitted can drain the battery if faulty even the body control management ECU, after you have checked your earth connections and are sure the battery is 100% you may have to get it pluged into Testbook or something similar.
Sorry i can't help with the suspension probs that's not my thing but what u can hear is the air pump.

Do you park near any type of radio mast? i was once near a fire station and could open and close doors etc but could not start it. The key just turned with no noises at all.

I got a few people to help and we pushed it up and away from the mast (50m plus away) and it started no probs at all.

Does it start ok if your somewhere else?

Are you making sure the auto lever is in park?

If all else fails just get a new battery. it's cheap insuranc eaginst being stranded.
