Hi folks
with the recent spell of cold weather,my Td4 has decided to be a pig to start by taking around 5 or 6 turns of they key Once its fired up its ok for the rest of theday , pulls well and doesnt smoke. So yesterday I checked the glow plugs, they were working fine but as a precaution i replaced them with new Bosch ones to be on the safe side.
Anyway I thought I would stick the battery on charge when I noticed the battery seemed a lot smaller than the tray ,checked online and the Td4 is meant to have an 096 battery, somone has fitted a 065 battery so this morning I decided to get the jump leads and used my VW t4 camper to jump start it, it started up from cold first turn once the glow plug light had gone off rather than the 5 or 6 attempts its been doing all week so its new battery time later on when the local car spares place opens
.
Anyway would a battery thats too small cause a cold start problem by not having enough power to spin the engine over and do the glow plugs and all the other electrical stuff???

Hi Ammiee.
That seems to be a good battery you have fitted, with good cold cranking performance, what does for the batteries this time of year is the cold and mainly if the car is only doing short journeys, it does not give enough time for the battery to get up to charge by just using the car, in the winter always best to give your battery a good 24hr charge if you can, keep the battery you have taken off and fully charge it, one day it may get you out of trouble.

The drivers handbook says a Td4 is fitted with either H6 or H7 battery depending on region, 096 or 115 in UK sizes.
However the 110 is more common and competetively priced than the 115 with the same specs.
096......278 x 175 x 190
115......315 x 175 x 190
110......315 x 175 x 175

It's a known problem of shops advising peeps to buy the wrong size battery for the FL1. Somehow int past the information they use got contaminated. Peeps should follow what's int Freelander owners manwell as opposed to what the shop says.
