battery light stays on

Hi im really confused over this 1.
when the engine and everything else in the car is turned off my battery light is lit up on the dash. it stays like this even when the car is locked up. but when you turn the key for the glow plugs to warm up it goes off. its been like this since i went off roading and got stuck in the mud but i cant see that as being the cause of the problem.
any 1 with any ideas please let me know because im stumped!!!

sounds like yo alternator is nackered. get it checked.

had similar problem many years ago on mk 2 escort, was found to be faulty wire.
just check your wiring first, may have snagged something with out knowing
when you were stuck or being recovered.....
got nothing to loose

Yep either a bad connection or more likely the diode pack fusbared in the alternator
