Hi Guys

I would very much respect some advice on this fault, my battery light is staying on, I presumed it was the battery because I have had to jump start the vehicle all this week and I purchased a replacement for the old one that is approximately 3-4 years old, I installed a new alternator 3 years ago because Land Rover explained it was starting to fail.

Anyway I have installed the new battery and the battery light is still on, it sometimes goes out and is intermittent.

Any advice would I would be obliged.

Thanks Guys

If all the leads check out OK - not forgetting the earth straps, the intermittent bit could be brushes worn down and sticking in the carrier or a diode on the way out in the rect/reg that's going open circuit with heat..........

Thanks for the advice, stageonesimmo, you explained the intermittent bit could be brushes worn down and sticking in the carrier or a diode on the way out in the rect/reg that's going open circuit with heat..........

Could you be more specific! what is rect/reg!

Thanks

The rect/reg is the rectifier/regulator which is a unit (normally inside the alternator these days) that rectifies and/or regulates the voltage coming out of the regulator.

Basically, its a bit of the alternator, that could well be knackered.

Rectifier regulator. FFS can't you do a search or something.

The red battery light is ON because there are more volts in the batery than is coming out of the alternator.

Ergo, the alternator is goosed.

As RevJames saysm try replacing the brushes 'cos that's a cheap and easy fix.

Else a recon 'nator sopunds like a plan.
