2 battery's in my disco one is primary on drivers side the other side is secondary. Drivers side is an old battery other side seems fairly new. Anyway secondary battery is connected to the primary battery. Got in it today and boom battery's too flat to turn over I charged it the other day and has been turned over twice so in 2 weeks it's dead.

Advise I need is do you think the battery primary is not holding charge or is it something else? As I'm unsure whether the secondary keeps the primary charged or does it just help it along

I've search but for my set up and looking for any info I have found none lol

You need to explain how you have set up the linking of your two batteries, split charge with any manual or automatic change over or just the basic parallel connection.

If they are just connected in parallel then the faulty battery will pull down the healthy one to the same state.

i was told never to put 1 old and 1 new. was told to replace both at the same time it sounds like your is set up the same as my old disco witch would never keep its charge unless i used it every day.

Take them both out and charge both of them fully then see which one holds a charge and put that back in you don't need both( if both hold charge ok then problem is with vehicle not batteries), if one is ok but you still want two batteries sort out a proper split charge system and buy one new one.
If both are fubar and you do buy two new ones also sort a proper split charge system anyway.

So system I got is actually pointless I guess then. Will be wipping them out Sunday and giving it a go. So the split h
Charge system I'm going to have to read into for sure. How would I know if I already have a good charge system of such as I've only recently brought this

It used to have a winch hence two battery's but if it's daisy changed what's the point if it's ****e?

Can someone explain my set up to me why it's crap and not just replace one battery.

This split charge I assumed you just split the cable between two and put a cut of section so you can disconnect if needed. This is well over my head apart from I know I currently have a disco with two battery's and doesn't start

If you just have a standard vehicle with no added items eg winch one battery is fine.
Split charge lets you run something eg winch off one battery and vehicle (starting and running etc) off another. This also means you can use different types of battery more suited to each task.
It doesn't just involve splitting the cable it involves using a relay between the batteries to avoid one battery discharging the other or draining both batteries when using a winch or similar ie to preserve your ability to start the engine.

So from what you have said it would be easiest for you to find out if either of your current batteries is good/refit only the best of the two you have.
