Morning all.
I recently changed the battery on my 2000 P38 Vogue, reset the windows etc and all was fine. The problems I now have are:

The SAT NAV doesn't work, screen is blank.
Sometime when I turn the lights on or use the main beam to flash there is a noise as if the horn is sounding but at a very low level or the traction control warning will show on the message centre.

Has anyone got any ideas how to sort this without going to a main stealer?

You have learnt the first lesson of changing batteries! Ensure your batteries are fully (and I mean fully), charged before changing them over.

It causes belly hell with the old BECM and creates phantom error messages.

Unless you have some kind soul that's able to hook up the BECM and reset the errors, you will have to go to a main "stealer" as you so eloquently
put it..

..of course I'm extremely lucky as I have an awesome independent 4X4 garage near me that charges half the labour and discounts the parts...seek one out as soon as possible.

i have had problems of this nature in the past and it didnt need anything reset! not apart from just disconnecting the battery and refiting with a charged/good one!
i had g/box faults, srs faults, eas fault max speed 35mph, the gauges going up and down on there own and the message centre flashinfg on/off! fitted decent battery and it was instantly ok and has never since been any trouble!
try that first before spending any money, you never know!

Just a little 'silly' to think about for the future.
I recently fitted a brand-new heavy-duty battery, but being somewhat 'nervous'
about possible problems,(re-sets etc.) I got an old 12v burglar-alarm (gel-cel) battery, hooked up a couple of croc-clips to the cars battery-leads & proceeded to swap batteries, this way, a 12v supply was still connected to the system, keeping it 'alive' & no problems occurred at all!!

When you changed the battery did you have the engine running right before changing the battery??

If you did how long did you wait after switching off before disconnecting the battery. If you dont wait until the little red light on the sat nav computer goes off (about a minute) then you can corrupt the system in someway and it will need to be sent off to be sorted out (Sorry I cant remember more about this, I will look it up for you).

In regard to the other things, I guess the question should be - why did you change the battery??

It sounds like you possibly have an electrical fault somewhere, have you checked all your earthing points and cables?? Have you double checked the connections at the battery are tight??

What problems were you having when you had your old battery in?? Anything like the current ones??

-Wills :)
