Where you hoping to buy it from as different places use differant codes?

Probably Halfords as I have one near me and like to be able to go into a store to change it if/when necessary! Any idea on what amp battery I'm looking at? I thought the 'type' was universal between all manufacturers?

But nowadays I guess they have to be all the same :)

Batteries. AGM technology is the way forward. Calcium batteries need to be avoided. Albeit ok in a daily driver with low loads, if they are run below 12 volts for more than 12 hours then they tend to never recover properly.
Unsure of your battery, a rough guide to it's effectivenes is to trickle charge it over night, let it settle for a couple of hours then turn the headlights on for 10 seconds, turn them off and measure the float voltage. Should be between 12.53 and 12.74 on a good battery.

Hellfrauds batteries are not very good quality and have a low plate count per cell.

I've stuck a clodding great Varta AGM in mine. Exide, Varta and Bosch are all good brands as well and tend to work well. Hoppecke can be good value for money but they are Bosch seconds. Gel batteries such as yellow top optimas are good but don't last. If you want advice on the ultimate batteries join a Car Audio forum like talk audio and speak to the SPL guys.

And as for different battery codes, there used to be the old standards we used to know like 069, 072 etc, nowadays we are on EN european standards.

You chaps do go overboard sometimes, it not a safari of utter importance I think a 3 year guarantee is quiet Adequate don't you .

It ain't the plugs and pump that cause the problem, it's the ECU's not liking the volt drop on cold starting:rolleyes:

Well see, half knackerd unmaintained one maybe all too paranoid lead wet cell battery's are fine so my 740 rating :) the four years old one was a Monroe 700 cc type 644 no issues as yet

gentlemen.

please please have your batteries in super condition especially for a p38 in winter.

biggest battery as per datatek and maybe a trickle charger also.

it will save you...honest...

have a great winter..

What matters on the P38 is Amp Hour and Cold Cranking Amps 135Ah and 1000CCA is the biggest that will fit and cures all manner of ill's.

I've used a Trojan AGM C-31 1000 cca for the last five years with no problems until about 2 months ago then the SRS light came on, took her out for a run turned off the SRS light, never had a problem starting.

I agree with Datatek, time to think about locating a replacement battery for the winter.

Halfords didn't seem to have anything as big! Even some of the run of the mill '069' batterys are in the region of £100.............with a trade card!!!! No contest.
